On Wednesday evening 3/8/17, Mohegan FD trained at Station #3 (Furnace Woods Station) on review of our Bullard thermal imaging cameras and MSA 4 gas meters. We utilize these tools on many calls during the year. Members reviewed the operations of all our thermal imaging cameras and also re-trained on our new Bullard Eclipse thermal imaging cameras, that are starting to be put into service (Engine 256, Engine 257, and Ladder 35 so far) to replace our other aging thermal imaging cameras (TIC's). Members also reviewed on our MSA 4 gas meters which measure oxygen, carbon monoxide, combustible/explosive gases, and hydrogen sulfide levels. The thermal imaging cameras assist us in looking for heat behind walls, or areas that we cannot see with the naked eye. We can also use the TIC's to detect human heat while searching for victims in fires or even lost persons in the woods. Our MSA gar meters are utilized at any odor of gas calls or carbon monoxide alarm.
