At 12:13pm on Thursday 3/9/17, Mohegan FD was dispatched to the area of 519 Furnace Dock Rd in Cortlandt for reported wires down and burning. Upon arrival of units, a primary wire was found down in the roadway and burning with a small brush fire that had started. Due to strong winds and dry leaves, the brush fire quickly expanded to approximately 100ft x 300ft down the hillside, advancing toward a commercial warehouse/medical research laboratory. Con Edison Electric was requested and updated to respond with a priority rush due to the exposure issues. While awaiting Con Edison, firefighters began to make a fire break using rakes and hand tools around the perimeter to attempt to contain the rapidly expanding brush fire. Once Con Edison Electric arrived and deemed the power line de-energized, firefighters utilized two 1 3/4" hoselines from Engine 258, being supplied from a closeby hydrant. An additional 1 3/4" hoseline was stretched from Engine 252, which was operating on the west side of the operation, and an additional hydrant was utilized to supply Engine 252. Due to a hydrant failure, another hydrant approximately 700ft away was utilized for supplying water to Engine 252. Using a total of 3 hoselines from both engines, the fire was quickly knocked down and members worked to extinguish numerous hot spots throughout the afternoon. Members also soaked the nearby brush on both sides of the street to ensure any possible additional embers were extinguished. Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association Volunteer Ambulance Corps 69B2 stood by on scene and brought rehab supplies. Westchester County Police also assisted on scene. Due to the wires down and brush fire, Furnace Dock Rd was closed between Croton Ave and Gilman Ln. All units cleared the scene by 3:15pm. During this fire, Mohegan FD's FAS-Team was requested for a structure fire in Peekskill, but due to our manpower operating at the brush fire, Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was requested in our place for their FAS-Team. Units operating on scene of the brush fire were Car 2264 (IC), DC38, DC41, Engine 252, Engine 258, and Rescue 32. Members returned to LMFD Station #3 (Furnace Woods Station) to repack all the hoselines and supply hose using our dept's hose roller. All apparatus were back in service by 5pm.

Units: Car 2264 (IC), DC38, DC41, Engine 252, Engine 258, Rescue 32, and 69B2
