At approximately 3:25am this morning Wednesday 2/28/18, Mohegan FD, Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Yorktown Police Department, and Yorktown/Empress Emergency Medical Services Paramedics responded to Crompond Rd (Rt 202/Rt 35) in the area of Staples Plaza for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival, a one vehicle accident was found in front of the Chase Bank, with heavy damage to the vehicle. Luckily the driver, though injured, self-extricated prior to arrival. The driver was transported by Mohegan EMS 69B3 and Yorktown 34Medic1 to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for treatment. Mohegan Firefighters secured the vehicle’s battery by using the Hurst tool from Engine 252 to remove the hood to access the engine compartment. Firefighters also assisted with traffic control and scene lighting. The vehicle struck a street sign, light pole, and heavily damaged a Westchester County Beeline Bus Stop and Bus Shelter. A bus stop metal garbage can did get lodged through the vehicle’s windshield during the impact and narrowly missed the driver. Once the vehicle was removed from the scene and the area was secured with Fire Line tape, Mohegan FD units cleared by 4:20am.
