Tonight Wed 5/15/19, Mohegan FD (volunteer and career staff) trained at the Shrub Oak Park on Sunnyside Ave in Shrub Oak on Engine Company Operations and Tactics. As part of the drill, members trained to set up 2 hard suction drafts using hard suction hose supplying water from the stream to Engine 255. With a positive water supply established from the stream, members reviewed deck gun operations, and then stretched hoselines for a multitude of operations. During the hoseline tactics, members trained on a courtyard stretch which involves stretching a 2 1/2” hoseline and connecting a Wye adapter to attach two 1 3/4” hoselines. This is important to review due to the numerous apartment and townhouse developments in our district that have courtyards and garden style setups. Members then trained on advancing both 1 3/4” hoselines (one with a smooth bore nozzle and one with a combination fog nozzle) through turns and simulated doors on the roller rink to simulate doors and turns normally found while performing an interior fire attack. Once this was complete, members then trained on advancing a 2 1/2” hoseline. This training was especially important due to drafting operations not a normal practice on the fireground in our district due to having municipal fire hydrants, but it can occur in areas not accessible to fire hydrants, during water main breaks, or while responding mutual aid to our surrounding departments. Units at tonight’s drill were Car 2261, 2262, 2264, 2265, 2266, 2269, 22610, Engine 254, Engine 255, Engine 256, Ladder 10, Ladder 35, and Utility 80.
