On Sunday evening 8/11/24 at approximately 9:50pm, Mohegan FD was dispatched to the area of Gallows Hill Rd and Pumphouse Rd in Cortlandt for a reported transformer fire. While units were enroute, Mohegan FD was also dispatched to an additional call at the Con Edison electric substation on Oregon Rd for a reported power issue. Responding units found a large tree that fell on Gallows Hill Rd pulling down the overheated electric wires that caused a transformer fire at the location. Additionally, this also caused a backfeed into the electric substation on Oregon Rd, but upon arrival of units, there was no issue found at the electric substation. Con Edison Electric was requested to both locations and Cortlandt Highway Dept was requested to assist with the tree down. The Continental Village FD was requested to assist with traffic control on Gallows Hill Rd at Kingston Ave, but they were redirected to standby in quarters to cover the north end of the Gallows Hill Rd portion of Mohegan FD until the roadway was clear. Upon arrival of Con Edison, the electric power in the area was turned off so that the Town of Cortlandt Highway Dept could clear the downed tree. The scene was turned over to Con Edison for repairs and Mohegan FD cleared the scene by 12am. During the incident, 1 firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital by Westchester County EMS/AMR 89B1.
