On Thursday evening 9/26/24 at approximately 6:30pm, Mohegan FD was dispatched to the area of Route 6 and Curry Street in Yorktown for a reported garage truck fire. On arrival, Mohegan Firefighters found an active garbage truck fire. The driver of the garbage truck already dumped the contents onto the street to stop fire spread to the vehicle. Members quickly stretched a 1 3/4” hoseline and began to extinguish the fire. Mohegan FD remained on scene for approximately 2 hours and assisted until the roadway was safe to be reopened. Yorktown PD also assisted with the closure of the westbound lanes of Rt 6 at Curry St.
