On Tuesday morning 10/8/24, Mohegan FD kicked off Fire Prevention Month with a visit to the Little Learners of Westchester on Rt 202 in Yorktown. The kids learned fire and safety tips inside with a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog and were shown how a firefighters gets dressed into full gear. Once outside, the kids were shown all the equipment carried on Engine 253.

For the parents who would like to know what we teach, some of the topics discussed which may be brought home for further discussion are:

1) Dialing 911
2) Stop Drop and Roll
3) E.D.I.T.H (Exit Drills In The Home) with a focus on having a safe spot for everyone to meet (mailbox, tree, neighbor’s house etc) in case of a fire or emergency
4) Matches/Lighters are a Tool and Not a Toy
5) Changing batteries on smoke and/or CO detectors with the clock change “Change your Clock, Change your Battery”

Units: Car 2262, 2263, Engine 253
