***For Immediate Release***
The Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association (MVFA) has received some questions and comments regarding the 33.4% increase in the Lake Mohegan Fire District tax.
In all transparency, the MVFA has NOTHING to do with the taxes levied by the Lake Mohegan Fire District. The fire company (MVFA) and fire district are two separate entities. The Lake Mohegan Fire District has elected, by the public, Commissioners who set the budget and tax increases or decreases every year.
The MVFA provides volunteer firefighters (manpower) to the District and the MVFA fundraises completely separately (no tax money) for the fire company events (Fire Prevention, Candy Cane Runs, etc).
The MVFA operates off of donations from the public (annual mailed Fund Drive) and from the rent collected by the tenants at 1975 E. Main St.
Any questions about the tax increase should be directed to the Lake Mohegan Fire District directly.
The next commissioners meeting being held is Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 pm at the Lake Mohegan Fire Station #2 (500 Lee Blvd, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598). We encourage anyone with questions or concerns to attend the commissioners meeting.
Sincerely, President Andrew Cerrato and MVFA Board of Directors |
