On Monday 11/25/13 1:25pm, Mohegan Fire units were dispatched to Cedar Pond Lane in Yorktown for a reported structure fire. Within 1 minute of dispatch, smoke was visible from a distance thus the 10-75 was transmitted for a working structure fire and the first alarm was transmitted. Yorktown FD Rescue 16/FAS-Team, Mahopac Falls FD Rescue 19-6-1/Cascade, Mohegan EMS, Peekskill EMS Rehab, Westchester County DES Battalion 17, and WC DES Cause and Origin Team were all dispatched to the scene on the first alarm assignment. Mohegan units arrived and found a multi floor residence fully involved with heavy fire on all floors. Due to the amount of fire, Putnam Valley FD Engine 24-2-2 and Somers FD Utility 88/Rehab were also requested above the first alarm and responded to the scene. Multiple hand lines and a 2 1/2" blitz nozzle hose line were stretched and put into operation from Engine 258, Ladder 35, and Putnam Valley's Engine 24-2-2. Ladder 35 set up its aerial for possible roof ventilation or master stream operations. Engine 252 laid 5" supply hose from a nearby hydrant. The fire was extinguished with 4 hours with extensive overhaul performed. All units cleared the scene by 7pm. Yorktown Police and Westchester County Police also assisted on scene. The fire remains under investigation at this time. Peekskill FD Engine 133 and Mahopac FD Tower Ladder 18-5-1 covered Mohegan FD Sta. 1 and did respond to a residential alarm while units were on scene. Pictures are courtesy of FF Gus Stretz.
