At approximately 8:15pm this evening Sunday 4/21/19, Mohegan FD was dispatched to Cornwall Circle in Yorktown for a reported kitchen fire. Upon arrival, units found an extinguished fire in the kitchen, with a smoke condition and odor of gas throughout the residence. The fire was extinguished prior to arrival by the homeowner using a dry chemical extinguisher. Units checked for fire extension by using a thermal imaging camera, while other members isolated the propane leak from the stove by shutting the propane line. Members also began ventilation by using an exhaust fan to remove the smoke. Con Edison Gas and Halstead-Quinn Propane were also requested to the scene. The fire was found to be caused by the homeowner using a lighter to find an ongoing gas leak at the stove, which in turn caused an ignition and small explosion and subsequent fire. We remind everyone to report any odors of gas to your respective gas company or Dial 911. All units cleared the scene by 9:30pm. Units operating were Car 2262, 2264, 2266, 2267, 2269, 22610, Engine 252, Engine 256, Ladder 10, Rescue 32 and Utility 80. |
