At approximately 5:40pm tonight Sat 2/22/20, Mohegan FD (volunteer and career) was dispatched to a reported chimney fire on Crompond Rd (Rt 202). Upon arrival, units found embers at the top of the chimney and a neighbor reported seeing 4 foot flames coming from the top of the chimney. Due to the access to the residence set back off the roadway, access for apparatus was limited and the roof was only accessible using a ground ladder. Firefighters worked to clear out the fireplace stove, while other firefighters opened up the top of the chimney. The fire was confirmed to be contained to the chimney, but the interior was checked using thermal imagining cameras. Once the fire was fully extinguished and the residence was ventilated, units cleared the scene by 6:40pm. Units on scene were Car 2261, 2262, 2263, 2264, 2265, 2266, Engine 252, Engine 254, Ladder 35, Rescue 32, and Utility 80. New York State Police also assisted on scene.
