On Monday 7/10/23 at approximately 1:50pm, Mohegan FD responded to East Main St (Rt 6) and Constitution Sr for a resported natural gas leak caused by a contractor stealing the gas main. Upon arrival, a 3” high pressure natural gas main was found struck and leaking at a pressurized rate. The immediate area was evacuated of civilians and the roadway was shut down. One 1 3/4” hoseline was stretched precautionary from Engine 258. Mohegan Firefighers remained on scene until Con Edison Gas arrived and secured the leak. After the leak was secured, Mohegan Firefighters checked the nearby Best Buy store and Van Cortlandtville Elementary School for any potential readings. No readings were found and the area was reopened to traffic. All Mohegan FD units cleared the scene by 3pm. The New York State Police and Westchester County Police assisted us on scene.
